We have a proven history of delivering critical solutions to federal clients, including the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Defense (DOD).

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)

Sigma Science provides support in a variety of disciplines to various TRIAD organizations at LANL. These specialty services include

  • Nuclear safety basis development and implementation including Document Safety Analyses (DSAs), Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and Unreviewed Safety Question Determination (USQD)
  • Nuclear safety accident analysis
  • Nuclear criticality safety analysis and evaluation development
  • Project Management and Project Coordination
  • Fire Protection Engineering for both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities

Our capabilities directly contribute to the NNSA’s Nuclear Weapons, Global Security and Non-Proliferation, Waste Management, and Environmental Programs, and we often act as the primary liaison with NNSA and the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DFNSB).

Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) 

Sigma Science provides support in a variety of disciplines to Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) organizations at the NNSS. These specialty services include:

  • Facility and Project Engineering Support and Integration
  • Program and Project Management
  • Engineering Design and Support
  • Dosimetry Support
  • Programmatic Readiness Review Support
  • Project Development and Program Integration

Our capabilities directly support core NNSA Nuclear Weapons, Global Security and Non-Proliferation, and Safety/Infrastructure Programs at the NNSS in a variety of facilities including the Device Assembly Facility (DAF) and U1a Complex.

National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)

Sigma Science provides a wide range of technical support services to the NNSA Acquisition and Project Management (APM) Office (APM-12) at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). These services include:

  • Engineering, Quality Assurance/Program Analysis, and Administrative support
  • Construction Management support
  • Environmental, Safety and Health support including Integrated Safety Management (ISM), Nuclear Safety, compliance assessment, fire protection, and NEPA planning, execution, and permitting support

Our capabilities directly support the NNSA in implementing effective and efficient oversight and management of Major System Acquisition projects at LANL, such as the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) Facility Project and the Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production Project (LAP4). Additionally, Sigma provides support services to the NNSA Office of the Executive Secretariat (NA-MB-1.3), the Office of the Deputy Administrator for Defense Programs (NA-10), the Office of Nuclear Weapons Stockpile Sustainment (NA-122) and the Stockpile Services Division (NA-122.1). These services include management, organizational and administrative support in the areas of:

  • Controlled unclassified and classified correspondence/document processing
  • Visitor access
  • Strategic communications
  • Record Management
  • Program Management
  • Weapons system familiarization

Our capabilities directly contribute to the successful day-to-day operations for NA-MB-1.3, NA-10, NA-122 and NA-122.1.

Pantex Plant/Y-12 Complex

Sigma Science provides Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) with highly specialized Fire Protection and Nuclear Safety technical support services for the DOE’s Pantex Plant in Texas and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee. Our capabilities directly contribute to upgrading and improving mission critical facilities and safety basis documents in support of weapons production activities (including assembly and disassembly) related to the NNSA’s Managing the Stockpile mission.

Department of Defense, US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC)

Sigma Science provides independent evaluation of nuclear safety analysis reports, develops technical nuclear safety analysis documents for essential facility systems, and uses probabilistic risk analysis tools to support compliance with nuclear surety standards for the maintenance and storage of nuclear weapon systems. We directly support the Air Force Military construction process with studies, analysis, and recommendations to support compliance with mission requirements for survivability, vulnerability safety, surety, and security. Our capabilities directly contribute to the AFNWC’s Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate objectives.

DOE Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM)

Sigma Science provides technical, regulatory, environmental, and administrative support services to the DOE-EM in Washington, D.C.; technical and advisory support services for Mercury cleanup activities at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee; and nuclear safety and criticality safety analysis technical support services to the DOE-EM cleanup mission in Los Alamos. We also developed a Documented Safety Analysis for Area G in Los Alamos. Our capabilities directly contribute to the DOE-EM Waste Management and Environmental Restoration missions across the DOE complex.

Savannah River Site (SRS)

The Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Savannah River Acquisition and Project Management Office (SR APMO) missions are unique, complex, and diverse, and include the Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation missions, the Defense Programs project to repurpose the former Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility at the SRS as the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF), and the expansion of SR APMO scope to include the Tritium Finishing Facility, and Surplus Plutonium Disposition. As an E-TESA-2 small business Contractor Team Arrangement Member and lead for the support services contract to the SR APMO, Sigma Science provides technical support services including technical, engineering, project controls, construction, nuclear quality assurance, and programmatic support services.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)

Sigma Science provided technical and administrative support services to ORNL’s Fissile Material Disposition Program and currently supports ORNL’s Nuclear Energy Projects and High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) Safety Basis Team. We have also provided technical and project management support services to ORNL’s Global Security and Non-Proliferation Program Office. Our capabilities directly contribute to key DOE Office of Nuclear Energy Programs.

NNSA – Sandia National Laboratories (SNL)

Sigma Science provides SNL with nuclear professional services and operations support for nuclear facilities at Tech Area 5 along with technical survey/audit and engineering/architectural support services for the balance of the Laboratory including Sandia’s CREST Project. We also provide technical support for materials control and accountability, safeguards and security research and development (R&D), program management, and mission computing (in the areas of nuclear materials management, criticality safety, and environment, safety and health). Sigma has provided software and cyber security professionals to support SNL’s R&D programs. Our capabilities directly contribute to the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Nuclear Weapons Life Extension Programs, Global Security and Non-Proliferation, Cybersecurity, and Safeguards and Security R&D, all of which are vital elements of the US National Security Enterprise.

Department of Defense, US Air Force, Global Strike Command – Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports

Sigma Science is developing Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports (NSAR) in support of the design and construction of new USAF Nuclear Weapons Facilities as well as for existing facilities that require NSARs. We are also reviewing and providing input on NSARs that support the design and construction of new USAF Nuclear Weapons Facilities as the design progresses through each phase of the design process to the construction phase. Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports are utilized to identify the controls and mitigations for hazards inherent to these types of facilities, ensuring the safety of USAF staff, the public, and the facilities.

Department of Defense, US Air Force, Defense Threat Reduction Agency – Fire Hazards Analysis

Sigma Science is developing Fire Hazards Analysis (FHA) in support of the design and construction of new USAF Nuclear Weapons Facilities as well as for existing facilities that require updates to their FHAs. We are also reviewing and providing input on existing FHAs that support the design and construction of new USAF Nuclear Weapons Facilities as the design progresses through each phase of the design process to the construction phase. The FHAs are then used in support of the Nuclear Safety Analysis Reports that have been developed in support of these facilities, to ensure the safety of USAF staff, the public, and the facilities.

Department of Defense, US Air Force, Air Force Research Laboratory – Kirtland AFB

Sigma Science is providing project management, project engineering, drafting, and construction project oversight in support of the USAF Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) facilities located at the Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB). Are staff are supporting several new construction and facility upgrade projects serving as project managers, project engineers, draftsman, and providing management and oversight of construction projects in support of the several hundred facilities that AFRL is responsible for at KAFB.

Department of Energy, Environmental Management, Idaho Cleanup Project – Nuclear Professional Services

Sigma Science is providing nuclear professional services support to Idaho Environmental Coalition, LLC, the DOE EM Prime Contractor responsible for the Idaho Cleanup Project. We are providing engineers in support of the Idaho Cleanup Mission, supporting critical projects to meet Idaho Cleanup Project milestones.
