Dr. Elizabeth R. Cantwell recently joined the University of Arizona as Senior Vice President for Research & Innovation. For the last several years, she has served as the CEO of Arizona State University (ASU) Research Enterprise, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the university’s applied research and development in National Security. Prior to that she served as ASU’s Vice President for Research. She carries an appointment as a Professor of Practice in the School of Engineering at UA.
She has a long career in space systems engineering, from satellite development to life support systems, and sits on a number of science and technical support boards for the US Government. Most of her research career was spent conducting and managing classified research programs at DOE National Labs including LLNL, LANL and ORNL. She holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
